 Mooloolaba Triathlon Team

The Mooloolaba Triathlon Team was the brain child of Sunshine Coast based Age Group triathlete, David Chick. The 2 time Hawaii Ironman World Championship finisher and owner of Allez Sport Mooloolaba, developed the concept in an effort to give back to the sport he is so passionate about. The former Australian Rules footballer set about to gather a group of like-minded athletes who shared the same passion and willingness for all things endurance sport.

With the generous assistance of local businesses, the team has a roster of 12 athletes boasting Kona Finishers, Ultraman Finishers and Ultra Running Champions. Nathan Fitzakerley and Jason Cheshire are both heading to Kona Hawaii this year to tackle the Ironman World Championships, while both Robbie Andrews and Tony Bryan returned impressive results at both Ironman New Zealand and Ironman Cairns. Damien Collins has also punched his ticket to Kona this year and is looking to turn it on as he nips at the heels of the Pro Men, hoping to clinch his Professional Athlete card at the end of the year.

Kate Gazzard has impressed over the Iron distance in recent times, with a 2015 Kona Finishers Medal and a 5th Age Group placing at this year’s Ironman 70.3 Cairns. Next on the cards for Kate is the Run Larapinta Stage Race in August and a possible return to triathlon later in the year. Not to be outdone, the Team’s resident trail running specialist Danielle Evans has her sights set on a title defence at the Blackall Ranges 50km event. Currently dealing with a hamstring injury, Dan has had to pull out of the Coastal High 50 on the Gold Coast scheduled for September, but we know she’ll be back and ready to race come October.

Rachael Paxton is gearing up to make it back to back wins at the Yeppoon Triathlon in August. After conquering her first Iron Distance event at Challenge Wanaka earlier this year, Rach has really cemented her place in the Pro field with a gutsy 7th placing in NZ. After smashing through 2015 with a swag of podiums including Tri Fraser Coast, Coffs Harbour Tri and Noumea Triathlon, Rach has kept the ball rolling this year. A recent PB at the Gold Coast Airport Marathon shows she is in good stead to finish off the season on a high.

The team is rounded out with one of the best runners and one of the strongest cyclists on the Sunshine Coast. Justin Hunter is a force off the bike in any triathlon and has a Personal Best marathon time of 2:41 and 1:17 for the half marathon. Justin is also lining up for this year’s Noosa Triathlon and will be back to dominate the Sunshine Coast Marathon. Steve Halliday is a gifted athlete, showing lightning speed both on the bike and on foot. With standout performances over the years at both long and short course triathlon, Steve has produced podium finishes at Huskisson Triathlon and previously brought home the trophy from The Straddie Salute. We are looking forward to seeing what he will conquer this race season.
