For the past ten years, Lana Rogers has made a professional career out of one of the toughest sports in the water. Iron racing asks for everything at once: swimming, board paddling, ski paddling and beach sprinting, all raced in whatever conditions the ocean decides to deliver. Lana hasn't just competed at the top of it. She has helped define it, with three Iron Series titles, two Coolangatta Gold wins, two Australian Ironwoman Championships and two Australian Surf Life Saving Athlete of the Year awards, as well as representing Australia on the world stage.

The work behind the wins

Sixteen sessions a week. Up to three a day. That's the training load behind Lana's consistency, and she's clear about what makes it sustainable. Recovery comes first. Just as important is being happy in what she's doing, and knowing exactly what she's chasing. Lana writes her goals down and always carries a performance target in her head, which gives every session a purpose and every season a direction.

The season that tested everything

Last year, Lana fell short of [a third Coolangatta Gold title]. For the first time in her career, she didn't know where things were heading, and retirement came up in more than one conversation. Instead of walking away, she went back to the beginning. She reconnected with the surf, with the ocean, and with the reasons she chose to race professionally in the first place. That reset got her back on the start line and back to doing what she loves.

Every negative is a positive

Lana's philosophy is simple. Whatever happens in training or racing, there's always something to take from it. Over a decade at the elite level, she has learned that the tough days teach you more than the easy ones, and that the setbacks are where the real progress is made.

Fuelling the workload

Backing up session after session starts with the basics. Lana makes sure she's eating properly, getting enough carbohydrate and protein, and staying hydrated throughout the day around her training. During sessions she fuels with INFINIT Speed, and [watermelon] is her current go to flavour.

There have been lots of races won, but even more losses and I think that’s where you build resilience.
